Here at Newton, we are lucky to have wonderful space on our grounds for the children to play, learn and explore. Our woods on the North side of the school are home to out Forest School sessions, which children from across the school access one per week. Children access a range of activities tied into the seasonal changes in our woods, encouraging them to develop their awareness of the woods as an ecosystem and a resource for food and materials, as well as developing our learners physical and cognitive skills through natural exploration and play. Our Forest School sessions are adapting all the time to challenge learners across the school, and activities include: cooking by the fire, orienteering challenges, coppicing and weaving natural materials to build fences, tapping trees for sap, whittling, climbing trees, making ink from oak galls and plenty of games and fun too!
We are pleased to share some photos of the exciting and engaging activities and experiences of our children.
