Helo a chroeso i wefan Criw Cymraeg Ysgol Newton! Welcome to the website for Newton's Criw Cymraeg.
We are a bilingual school here at Newton Primary School and the Welsh language plays an important part in the school life both inside and outside the classroom.
We believe it is important for pupils to take ownership of their learning and have greater roles in school decision-making. We provide many opportunities for children to play a role in making the decisions that affect them. We recognise that pupils have logical perspectives and opinions on issues that matter in the classroom, in the school and in the community. We give pupils an active role in influencing decisions about these issues as well as in the implementation of these decisions. We enable pupils to participate as active young citizens.
Our Criw Cymraeg is made up of representatives of pupils from Years 2 through to Year 6. They meet fornightly on a Monday to promote Welsh and develop the Siarter Iaith across the school. They decide which targets they are going to work on this week, give feedback on how last week’s targets are going and discuss how to celebrate any special days/events that may be coming up in our Welsh calendar.
The role of the Criw Cymraeg is as follows:
Promote a Welsh ethos in Newton Primary School by encouraging learners to speak Welsh by giving out tocyn iaiths and weekly awards
Implement Siarter Iaith Cymraeg Campus and gather evidence to achieve our school targets
Help run Welsh assemblies
Deliver the Patrwm yr Wythnos in assembly.
