At Newton Primary, we are proud to be working towards becoming a School of Sanctuary – a place that offers a warm welcome to everyone, especially those seeking safety. This national and local initiative, supported by City of Sanctuary UK and Swansea City of Sanctuary, celebrates schools that promote inclusion, empathy, and understanding of migration and sanctuary.
Our commitment includes:
Raising awareness among staff, governors, and learners about the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers.
Embedding sanctuary themes in our curriculum, including lessons on migration, diversity, and human rights.
Celebrating Refugee Week and other global events to stand in solidarity with people seeking safety.
Empowering learner voice through School Council leadership in sanctuary activities.
Building community links and supporting local organisations such as Unity in Diversity and Swansea City of Sanctuary.
Creating a culture of welcome through inclusive policies, diverse resources, and a strong stance on anti-racism.
We believe that every child should grow up in a school that values compassion, equality, and global citizenship. By joining the Schools of Sanctuary movement, Newton Primary is helping to make Swansea a city where everyone feels safe, respected, and included.
